Forestry, once an economic pillar in the Province, has been impacted by the availability of less expensive products such as pulp for the paper industry from off shore nations. Logging once played a significant role in the Haliburton’s economy but it no longer does as mills and fabricating plants have closed. However, new markets have opened such as timber for construction of log-style homes and recreation properties. Haliburton County acknowledges woodlots still abound with raw product however future significance lies in value added wood manufacturing.
